I dedicate this album whose songs I carried
through months of our poor mothers extreme
illness and then sang with all the heat and
passion that she, our mother Mary, passed on
to us, to all the mothers everywhere from all
the sons and daughters, we love you and miss
you always.

＜管理人の感想・印象＞
結論から言いますと、ケチな管理人でも、思わず両方買ってしまったほど、素晴らしいアルバムです。以上（笑）。いや、冗談ではなく、真面目に、そう思います。実は、オセアニア盤が出るまで、ファン・クラブに注文してから１年３ヶ月も待って、北米盤が出ても、買わずにグッと我慢していたんですが（嘘。前作Say It Is Soがダメだったので、全然期待してなかっただけ（笑））、待った甲斐があったというものです。

まず、個人的には最も心配していた、ティムの声の衰えについてですが、悲しい現実ながら、もう10年前の声に戻ることはできません。しかし、だからといって、あきらめることはありません。公式サイトで試聴した時には、ウチのPC付属スピーカーの限界もあり、やはりダメかと、正直あきらめかけたものの、届いたCDを聞いてみて、予想以上に落ち着いて聞こえたのには、ホッとしました。前作ではどうも落ち着かなかった声も、本作では、ニューヨークで受けてきたというボイス・トレーニングの成果もあり、ティムは、自分の新しい声をやっと発見し、自信を取り戻したのではないか、と思うのです。

肝心の曲はどうなのかと言うと、前作と同じJay Joyceのプロデュースながら、今回はニュージーランドでの録音ということもあり、前作でどこか不自然に感じられたナッシュビルくささ（とでも呼ぼうか）が抜け、全体として、とても自然に、ストレートに心に響くロック、と言いましょうか、それはそれは会心の出来ばえなのです（ただし、Dead Manの「レモンの木にまたレモンがなる」云々といった、くだらない歌詞はさておき、ということで。Mutton BirdsのDon McGlashanのユーフォニウムはいいんですが）。Songlineのイントロを聞いた瞬間の、これはいけるかも、という予感が、驚いたことに、最後までそのまま裏切られずに続き、また繰り返し聞きたくなる、そんなアルバムです。

本題の、北米盤とオセアニア盤の比較についてですが、微妙に異なる曲順（と、ブックレットとピクチャー・ディスクのデザイン）で、オセアニア盤に軍配を上げます。特に、最後が、Incognito in Californiaではなく、一番長いCommonplaceで終わるのが、よりふさわしいように思います。また、I'll Never Knowのミックス違いについても、個人的には、コンパクトにまとまった、オセアニア盤の方がいいような気がします。しかし、お得なのはどちらか、と聞かれれば、迷わず、北米盤と答えるでしょう （だって前作のビデオが付いてるんだもん（笑）。発売が遅れた挙句、ビデオなしだったので、オセアニア盤を注文したファンは当然怒ってました）。ただ、ビデオはね…（以下自粛します（笑））。というわけで、勢いよく両方とも買ってしまうか、でなければ、北米盤を買って、オセアニア盤の曲順で聞く、というのが、お勧めってことになるでしょうかね。
